A recent survey by the Department of Conservation found didymo in the Kaipo River in northwest Fiordland. Didymo is an invasive freshwater algae. Algae are simple plants that grow in or near water. Ranger Josh Tabak said the river used to be known for its untouched condition. He explained that this made it a valuable location for nature and visitors.
