Fire Amoeba Sets New Temperature Record

Scientists supported by NASA have found a new amoeba. This organism can reproduce at 63 degrees Celsius. It was discovered in the hot waters of Lassen Volcanic National Park in California. The organism is named Incendiamoeba cascadensis, or the fire amoeba. This discovery sets a new temperature limit for the survival of eukaryotes, which are organisms with complex cells.
