Chiricahua Becomes the Newest National Park in the United States
In October 2026, Chiricahua in southeastern Arizona became Chiricahua National Park. This decision made it the newest national park in the United States. The area is part of the traditional territory of the Chiricahua Apache Nation. The Apache named it "The Land of the Standing-Up Rocks" for its tall rock formations.
